Bound by Silence

Bound by Silence is a quartet of abstract works that respond to the tumult of the past five years—political violence, social upheaval, and movements like MeToo that forced us to confront what’s been silenced. The first piece is a central figure—an anonymous person, faceless, but held back by a hand pressing against them, as if silencing their truth. The background is a swirl of oil paint—chaotic, heavy—suggesting the weight of suppression.
In the second piece, a red background frames a green square, inside which two white hands reach toward each other. The green is purity—our core selves—while red and white bleed in, a symbol of society clawing at us, eroding that essence. In the third piece, a series of circles—red, green, and white—form a pattern, representing how we mask ourselves, pretending to be something we’re not, so we fit into a society that fears difference. And finally, the fourth piece is that visceral cross of dark green and red, a reflection of sound inside me—like a heartbeat, like a pulse, a protest. Together, these pieces form a journey—a refusal to be silent, a call to see beyond the surface, and a struggle to be fully ourselves in a world that tries to erase us.
